About Peter Loosmore

Peter Loosmore is a visual artist whose practice spans acrylic, ink, and watercolour media, with a focus on expressive and evolving landscape forms. 

Born in Hannover, Germany, he began as a self-taught artist in the 1980s before further developing his practice in Australia at the Brisbane Institute of Art.

His international life living and working across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia has shaped a distinctive visual language informed by diverse environments and cultural perspectives      

Rather than documenting locations, Peter creates visual interpretations that suggest the essence of a place often emerging intuitively during the painting process 

His compositions are intentionally open, encouraging viewers to return, reinterpret, and form their own emotional connection 

He seeks to create work that is both immediate and enduring art that rewards curiosity, reflection, and time.  Paintings are layered and immersive, balancing structure and spontaneity to evoke atmosphere rather than depict literal scenes.
